Title: Car Raid
Objective: Learn interviewing basics and the importance of preparing for an
interview.
Time: Two 55-minute periods
Preparation:
- Move your car to a place easily accessible to students
- Remove any embarrassing
or extremely valuable items from the car
- Inform students about interview basics
and the need for preparation for
an interview.
Procedures:
Take students to the prepared vehicle (preferably yours) and have them look
through the contents. The related handout PDF could help with the process.
- Based only on the contents of the vehicle, have the
students write down observations of the vehicle and write at least
seven open-ended questions about
the owner of the vehicle. (You may have to take shifts with different
groups of 10 students at a time.)
- When finished, return to the classroom
and let students ask the questions to the owner of the vehicle. Each
student should ask at least one question.
- While asking the open-ended questions,
have the students write down two follow-up questions and two challenge
questions.
- Open up the floor to the follow-up questions and the challenge
questions.
- Have the students write an article about the owner of
the vehicle based only on what was found in the car and what was said
during the interview.
